Indian Customers Get Access to Giant Brands on the Metaverse

Consumers in India are now enjoying an expanded range of digital shopping experiences as major e-commerce platforms delve into blockchain and the metaverse.

Indian consumers can now explore products from brands like Puma and Nivea within a gamified and interactive metaverse. This is made possible by the local e-commerce giant Flipkart, which has launched a metaverse space where customers can discover and purchase products in a photorealistic virtual environment.

Flipkart officially introduced “Flipverse” on October 17 with the goal of bridging the gap between the best aspects of online and offline shopping experiences.

Through a collaboration with eDAO, an organization incubated by Polygon, Flipkart enables customers to create their own avatars in the metaverse, allowing them to engage more closely with their favorite brands. Simultaneously, brands have the opportunity to create their own digital counterparts in the virtual world.

In addition to hosting contests and exclusive brand promotions, Flipverse will support unique digital collectibles.

The e-commerce giant has indicated that multiple brands, including Puma, Noise, Nivea, Lavie, Tokyo Talkies, Campus, and others, will be featured in this new shopping experience, which will be available on FireDrops, Flipkart’s online shopping platform.

It’s worth noting that Flipverse is currently in the pilot phase and plans to gain attention during the festive season in October.

Naren Ravula, Vice President of Product Strategy at Flipkart Labs, emphasized that the metaverse represents a significant revolution in e-commerce and holds tremendous potential.

“Our goal is to enhance the online shopping experience by giving customers access to their preferred brands, offers, and digital collections,” said Ravula.

Sandeep Nailwal, Co-founder of Polygon, highlighted that the world has only scratched the surface of what is possible in the metaverse and that e-commerce is one of the best use cases for this technology.

Flipkart, one of India’s largest e-commerce companies, is known for making intriguing announcements on social media. Last year, the company posted a tweet indicating that it would accept Bitcoin, only to later reveal that it was an April Fools’ Day joke.

Flipkart isn’t the only Indian company entering the metaverse space. In February 2022, Indian multinational technology firm Tech Mahindra launched “TechMVerse,” a project aimed at offering customers interactive and immersive experiences. As of July 2022, the company was reportedly working on approximately 60 metaverse projects.
