Hollywood Actors on AI Strike: Impact on Industry’s Future
Hollywood actors have initiated a strike, pointing to inadequate job security in the face of the burgeoning use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Screen Actors Guild along with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have declared that negotiations concerning wages and job safeguards against AI have hit an impasse.
They emphasized their inability to reach a satisfactory agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and the studios.
Fran Drescher, President of the Actors’ Guild, expressed concern, stating, “We are under threat of being replaced by machines.”
The strike is likely to cause delays in TV shows and film releases in Hollywood, potentially resulting in financial losses amounting to billions for production companies.
American screenwriters initiated a strike on May 2. With actors now joining in, Hollywood productions are expected to face a total standstill for the first time since 1960.
