ElevenLabs has begun incorporating the voices of deceased celebrities into its Reader service, which converts books into audio. The company announced that it has acquired the necessary copyrights for this process.
ElevenLabs, known for its success with voice-focused artificial intelligence tools, has taken a significant step by adding the voices of deceased celebrities to its Reader service, enabling users to create audiobooks.
According to ElevenLabs, there are no copyright issues as agreements have been made with the heirs of the famous individuals whose voices have been included. Users will now be able to utilize the voices of Judy Garland, Burt Reynolds, James Dean, and Sir Laurence Olivier. These voices will be featured in the “Iconic Voice Library” within the Reader service.
Not available to the public at this time
The new voices, copyrighted by ElevenLabs, are unfortunately not available globally, as Reader is currently only accessible in the US, UK, and Canada. Additionally, the service is currently exclusive to the iOS ecosystem. However, the company has announced that it is working on a version for the Android community.
With this move, ElevenLabs has officially begun using the voices of famous individuals. It remains unclear whether this initiative will be limited to the four celebrities mentioned or if more artists will be added in the future. The company might have to pay substantial royalties, which could result in these voices being available to users within a limited framework.
