Humanoid Robot Anushka: A Beating Heart and Multilingual Skills

A group of students in India has developed a humanoid robot named Anushka, complete with a beating heart, using parts from a junkyard.

The world of technology continues to amaze us every day. This time, a group of students and professors from the Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology (KIET) in India has truly pushed the boundaries. The team developed a low-cost humanoid robot named “Anushka,” which they assembled primarily from scrap parts. But what makes Anushka truly unique is that she has a beating heart!

Anushka, a humanoid robot made from scrap parts and whose heart beats, costs $2,400

The development of Anushka is a remarkable example of what technology can achieve when combined with human creativity. This robot, made primarily from junkyard parts, cost only $2,400—an incredibly low price compared to other humanoid robots on the market. Despite the low cost, Anushka’s capabilities remain impressive.

Anushka’s facial design was developed using generative AI and was inspired by a historical French princess. Created with 3D printing technology and coated with flexible silicone, the face offers a very realistic appearance. Anushka even features a silicone-coated artificial heart with a functioning mechanism.

Anushka’s movements are powered by microcontrollers and servo motors, which are controlled by an Intel i7 processor. This allows the robot to perform various actions, from turning its head to moving its hands and eyes.

Anushka is much more than an ordinary humanoid robot. Thanks to AI-supported natural language processing (NLP) technology, it can understand and speak 61 languages. When communicating, Anushka not only comprehends words but also generates responses by translating them into digital signals. These responses are drawn from a large OpenAI database, making Anushka’s answers both comprehensive and accurate.

Anushka’s abilities don’t stop there. Equipped with facial recognition and computer vision technology, the robot can identify the people in front of it, analyze their facial expressions, and respond accordingly. Anushka can express emotions through more than 50 hand gestures and over 30 eye movements.

Currently, Anushka is used for tasks such as greeting visitors and answering their questions. However, the potential of this robot is much greater. The development team plans to deploy Anushka in fields like healthcare and consulting.

So, how prevalent do you think humanoid robots like Anushka will be in our lives in the future? In what areas could the widespread adoption of such low-cost robots create a revolution? Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
