Lowes Creates Metaverse

In its most recent Builder launch, Lowe’s company revealed that it has initiated efforts to broaden its current product line into the Lowes Metaverse world.

The portal is currently under construction, incorporating over 500 3D assets representing products available at Lowe’s. This initiative aims to facilitate the reuse of these assets within the Metaverse environment.

Lowes Metaverse World

Lowe’s has become the first home improvement company to launch a Metaverse portal for creators, setting a precedent in the industry. Other major players like Ikea and Home Depot have also announced their intentions to implement 3D design projects. Lowe’s Metaverse will feature a diverse range of products, encompassing lighting, patio furniture, area rugs, kitchenware, bathroom accessories, and decor accents.

Each asset within the portal will be available in both USD and glTF formats, enabling creators to utilize these assets in popular Metaverse environments designed for gaming, augmented reality, and creative design. Lowe’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) Seemantini Godbole shared insights on this initiative in a statement to VentureBeat.

“We view this as a natural extension of what we’ve been doing in other channels. This new offering is designed to capture more attention for the team and the brand, tapping into the creative inspiration of customers to enhance the customer and employee experience. Our tools help you get a sense of what it will look like before and after. It’s also as easy to use as in PowerPoint, where you can go in and drag and drop assets onto the slide.”

Lowe’s has been actively developing 3D assets for use in existing home improvement workflows. These assets find applications in various home improvement projects, such as designing a new kitchen, visualizing the appearance of new paint and floors, and planning projects while collecting data about a home. By embracing digital possibilities, Lowe’s aims to enhance the overall customer and employee experience in the home improvement process.

Lowes’ 3D Uses

Over the past 18 months, Lowe’s has dedicated efforts to develop new 3D technologies, emphasizing the significance of new assets, technology, and foundational processes.

One example of this initiative is Lowe’s Open Builder, which harnesses the 3D assets created by Lowe’s for a range of home improvement applications. Seemantini Godbole briefly commented on this aspect, stating:

“The beauty of building a great tech foundation is that you can use it over and over again.”

The creation process also involves extensive customer research and experience design work, highlighting Lowe’s commitment to enhancing customer experiences through innovative technological solutions.
