Slack is developing a new artificial intelligence tool that can summarize long files. As one of the world’s most popular productivity platforms, Slack has been actively incorporating AI tools since last February.
Researchers examining Slack’s latest APK file have uncovered potential artificial intelligence features likely to be added to the platform. It appears that Slack has learned valuable insights from the success of AI tools like Google’s Gemini and ChatGPT.
Potential AI tools on Slack could include capabilities like topic summary, semantic search, channel summarization, and text compilation. Numerous lines of code hint at AI-powered summarization features in particular.
Limitations of the AI summarization tool: The AI tool will not summarize every file. Based on the APK code, the tool won’t operate if the text is too short or too long, if the text is to be shared, or if the file is password-protected.
Although it’s not confirmed which file types will be supported, PDF, Word, and other text files are expected to be compatible. Other code insights indicate features for deleting summaries, collecting feedback, and detecting readability notifications.
With this new AI tool, files and conversations on Slack can be summarized without needing external tools like Gemini or ChatGPT.
