FIFA Launches Virtual Ecosystem in Roblox Metaverse
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has revealed that its virtual ecosystem, FIFA World, is now accessible on the Roblox Metaverse.
This initiative is part of FIFA’s effort to heighten football interest by providing a variety of games, immersive experiences, and rewards to participants on this platform.
FIFA Roblox Launches FIFA World in Metaverse!
FIFA’s press release regarding the launch of FIFA World on Roblox highlights its strategic importance as a preparation stage for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
FIFA is dedicated to creating new football experiences for fans and aims to engage football enthusiasts in social spaces. Through its collaboration with Roblox, FIFA has introduced an exciting online immersive experience that allows users to earn rewards and collect special virtual items. The virtual world will include various skill games and competitions to challenge collectors.
Romy Gai, FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer, emphasized the significance of this initiative. In the statement, Gai mentioned that it is part of FIFA’s commitment to expanding the reach of football and creating new avenues for fans to connect with the sport.
Additionally, FIFA’s immersive experience on Roblox provides football enthusiasts with a fresh way to interact with friends while immersing themselves in the rich culture of the world’s largest sports competition.
FIFA’s Applications
FIFA has been actively involved in the Metaverse space and has made references to it in the past. The organization filed a new patent application with the USPTO in July to register the 2026 World Cup on the Metaverse and virtual sports products.
This suggests that FIFA plans to explore more World Cups within the Metaverse in the future. Additionally, FIFA World publishes videos from FIFA+’s extensive archive, offering unique insights into stars like Pedri and Lena Oberdorf.
During the launch of FIFA World, the organization expressed its desire to expand and bring the Women’s World Cup 2023 into the virtual realm. FIFA also introduced the FIFA+ Collect platform in September of the previous year, which is built on the Algorand Blockchain. This platform features artwork from the World Cup and the Women’s World Cup, as well as iconic moments from football history.
Christina Wootton, Vice President of Roblox Global Partnerships, highlighted the unique experience of enjoying activities with friends from around the world within the Metaverse. With FIFA World on Roblox, fans can celebrate together, express their emotions, support their favorite teams, and access FIFA’s premier sporting events throughout the year.
FIFA’s recent initiatives align with the sports industry’s transition to the Web3 space, where sports teams are gradually entering the sector. Some are establishing their presence in existing Metaverses, while others are launching their own NFT collections, contributing to the growth of the Metaverse and NFT field.
