Creating AI Versions of Yourself on Instagram: The Metaverse Revolution

Thanks to Meta’s new AI Studio platform, it will soon be possible to create artificial intelligence versions of yourself on Instagram or the web. These AI versions will be able to interact with other people.

Soon, when you DM a creator or a page on Instagram, you might receive a response from their AI version. With this new feature, Instagram will allow content creators and business owners to create an AI persona that can answer questions or chat with followers. This AI persona will be managed through Meta’s AI Studio. For now, the feature will only be available to users in the US.

Artificial intelligences on Instagram

Meta’s goal is for creators and business owners to use these AI profiles to interact with their followers on their behalf. Instagram users in the U.S. can start using AI Studio through its website or by initiating a new “AI chat” directly on Instagram. Meta has stated that these AI twins can be customized to include specific links for sharing or to avoid discussing certain topics.

However, AI Studio is not limited to creators. Meta will also allow any user to create custom AI “personas” that can chat, share memes, or offer advice on specific topics. These AI personas are based on Meta’s new Llama 3.1 model. Users will be able to share their chatbots and track how many people are using them. Interactions with the created AI characters will remain private and not visible to others. This feature is similar to offerings from startups like Character.AI and Replika.

Meta has been developing AI characters for some time, including experimenting with chatbots that adopt the personalities of celebrities such as Snoop Dogg and Kendall Jenner. Meta also emphasizes that if AI profiles are created without bias, they will be clearly labeled wherever they appear.
