Full Details of the Samsung Galaxy XR Revealed: Coming with Ambitious Features

Samsung’s long-awaited XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, has surfaced. A major leak just weeks before the launch has revealed almost all the details about the company’s upcoming Galaxy XR mixed reality headset.

What Will the Samsung Galaxy XR Offer?

The information leaked by Android Headlines indicates that the device features a lightweight design, 4K micro-OLED display, high-end hardware, and AI-integrated features within the interface. The device is quite similar to the Apple Vision Pro in look and use. The Galaxy XR boasts a sleek and modern appearance with a curved front visor, a matte metallic frame, and soft internal pads. Weighing 545 grams, the headset is lighter than the Apple Vision Pro. An adjustment wheel on the back allows the user to easily adjust the headset’s tension. Samsung also prioritizes comfort by including ventilation channels and removable light seals.

The Galaxy XR aims for the highest image quality in the industry. The device features two 4K micro-OLED panels, offering a total pixel density of 4,032 PPI (Pixels Per Inch). This is higher than the Vision Pro’s 3,386 PPI.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, the headset can deliver 4.3K resolution at 90 fps to each eye. It also ensures high-efficiency performance for mixed reality tasks.

On the sensor front, a six-camera system handles passthrough, positional tracking, and environmental mapping. AI-powered eye and hand tracking enable natural navigation through the interface.

Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3. The battery life is stated to be around 2 hours of active use or 2.5 hours of media playback.

The Galaxy XR runs on Samsung’s newly developed One UI XR interface. This system reinterprets Android’s familiar structure within a three-dimensional spatial environment. The leak includes screenshots where apps like Camera, Gallery, Browser, YouTube, Netflix, Maps, and Google Photos appear to float in 3D space. Also notable is a persistent taskbar that houses Google Gemini AI, system shortcuts, and search.

Samsung will offer two 6-DoF (Six Degrees of Freedom) controllers with the headset, featuring analog sticks, trigger buttons, and haptic feedback support. Users can also interact via hand gestures or voice commands.

According to the leak, Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy XR on October 21 or 22. Pre-registrations will start in mid-October. The headset is expected to be priced between $1,800 and $2,000. This makes the device highly competitive compared to the Apple Vision Pro’s $3,499 price tag.
