In the Ethereum blockchain-based game Axie Infinity, a significant transaction occurred when a virtual land was sold for $2.4 million, equivalent to 550 ETH, setting a record.
The gaming platform, which operates on the Ethereum blockchain, announced through ArcaChemist that this digital terrain was purchased by a player known as Lunacian #789512.
This sale marks a notable event in the realm of blockchain gaming, reflecting the high value placed on digital assets in this emerging market.
Biggest virtual land sale ever
In a statement released on Wednesday, it was announced that a ‘Genesis’ type sandbox, recognized for its rarity, was sold for 550 ETH, equivalent to $2.4 million. This transaction is considered the largest digital land sale to date.
Axie Infinity, a game operating on a play-to-earn model, is set in a virtual world known as ‘Lunacia.’ In this game, players have the opportunity to earn the SLP (Smooth Love Potion) token.
Players engage in creating, breeding, and nurturing characters called ‘Axies.’ Additionally, these characters can be used in battles against other players or computer-controlled opponents, adding a competitive edge to the game’s immersive experience.
