Xiaomi’s New Phones Will Come with Cryptocurrency Applications

Starting from 2026, the wallet and cryptocurrency application developed by Sei Labs will come pre-installed on all new Xiaomi phones sold outside China and the US.
Sei‘s blockchain team announced its partnership with Xiaomi. As part of the collaboration, Xiaomi’s new smartphones sold outside China and the US will feature a pre-installed cryptocurrency wallet and cryptocurrency search application.
To Be Installed on All Xiaomi Phones Sold Outside China and the US As part of a new global partnership focused on bringing blockchain technology to more people starting from 2026, Xiaomi will pre-install the crypto app developed by Sei Labs on its new phones. The application is connected to Sei, a Layer 1 blockchain designed specifically for digital asset trading, and will come pre-installed on all new Xiaomi phones sold outside China and the US. This amounts to a vast number of devices.

The Sei app serves as a crypto wallet and a gateway to Web3 services. According to Sei, users will be able to perform peer-to-peer transfers, interact with decentralized applications, and explore other blockchain-based products without downloading anything extra.
Sei also plans to expand this partnership beyond smartphones. The company states that it intends to enable stablecoin payments in over 20,000 Xiaomi stores, starting with Hong Kong and certain European Union countries. This will allow consumers to purchase Xiaomi products using stablecoins like USDC, with transactions being completed on the Sei blockchain.
However, for most users, Sei will likely become one of the applications on the bloatware list. Pre-installed apps have long been a pain point for Xiaomi phones. For the past few years, phones have been arriving loaded with apps that most people never want.
Xiaomi has tried to be more transparent since then and has made some improvements, but this partnership seems like a step backward. Installing crypto apps by default, which most users are unaware of or will not use, does not seem like the right decision.
Xiaomi is currently the world’s third-largest smartphone brand after Apple and Samsung. The company covers more than 13% of the global market share. Numerically, this translates to over 100 million devices.
