World’s First Green Ammonia Bunkering for Ships Successfully Completed

A crucial step has been taken for ships powered by green energy. Envision Energy has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the world’s first green ammonia bunkering in China.
Envision Energy, a company operating in renewable energy solutions, carried out the world’s first green ammonia marine fuel bunkering operation at Dalian Port, China. This bunkering, performed on a 5,500-horsepower tugboat, is considered a technological turning point in the maritime sector. The operation was realized in partnership with China Shipping and Sinopec supply.
Produced with Clean Sources

The green ammonia used in this innovative bunkering operation was produced at the Chifeng facility, powered by wind, solar, and energy storage systems. This facility is recognized as one of the world’s largest green hydrogen and ammonia complexes. The bunkered tugboat is equipped with a locally developed dual-fuel engine in China. The engine can operate on up to 91% ammonia, significantly reducing fossil fuel consumption. With this development, Dalian Port has become the world’s first port capable of bunkering various environmentally friendly fuels, including biofuel, green methanol, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and green ammonia.
The industrialization of green ammonia production and its supply chain is seen as a critical step in meeting the global maritime sector’s increasing demand for low-carbon fuels.
