Windows 11 Taskbar to be renewed: It will be AI-powered

Microsoft is preparing to add a new AI-powered area to the Windows 11 taskbar. Announced as an “AI companion,” this feature will be able to work with Copilot and other assistants.

Recent Insider builds shared by Microsoft for Windows 11 have revealed brand-new features to be added to the Taskbar. New code discovered indicates that the taskbar will become an AI hub in the future. Users will now be able to interact with the computer more naturally.

The Taskbar is being renewed

According to the information in the code, Microsoft is preparing to add an AI section to the Windows 11 Taskbar that can “accompany” users. This area will function like a chat-based assistant, providing instant support. The system, which is expected to work in an integrated manner with Copilot, is also planned to support third-party AI tools in the future.

All AI features in one place

This new AI area may also make tools already available in Windows 11, such as Copilot Vision and Click To Do, more accessible. For those unfamiliar, Click To Do can scan screen content and suggest contextual actions from text and images. The shortcut to be added to the taskbar will allow these types of functions to be opened with a single click, without the need for a keyboard shortcut.

On the other hand, Copilot Vision analyzes the content on the screen and offers relevant action suggestions to the user. For example, getting information from an image in a document or adding selected text to a calendar can be done directly through this new taskbar area. Microsoft had previously hinted in its “Windows 2030 Vision” video that the system could be controlled by voice commands and that AI would play a more active role in system management. The new taskbar companion may be one of the first steps of this vision. However, the date when the new features will be made available has not yet been clarified. Therefore, users will have to wait a little longer.
