Global Version of Electric Kia EV5 Unveiled: Design and Features

Kia has introduced its new electric EV5 model, which will be sold in global markets such as Europe and Korea, following its initial launch in China. The Kia EV5 holds a significant position in the brand’s growth strategy.
Kia has officially unveiled its new all-electric SUV model, the EV5. Built on the Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), this mid-size SUV can be considered the electric counterpart to the Sportage in the brand’s product lineup.
What does the new Kia EV5 offer in terms of features?

The new Kia EV5 offers two different battery options: 60.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh, promising a range of up to 530 km according to the WLTP standard. However, in the more equipped GT-Line version with the larger battery, the range is limited to 505 km. This is attributed to the 19-inch wheels and the increased weight of the vehicle. The standard version comes with 18-inch wheels.
The EV5 supports fast DC charging up to 150 kW, allowing its battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. There is also 11 kW AC charging support for home or public use.
The model was first launched in China in October 2023. While production for Chinese consumers continues in China, export versions are produced in South Korea. This production choice was made to avoid high taxes imposed on electric vehicles originating from China. The battery technology also differs in EV5s offered in markets outside China. While the Chinese versions use LFP batteries, models offered in Europe and other markets are equipped with NMC batteries.
The Kia EV5 enters the market with a single-motor, front-wheel-drive version producing 160 kW of power (approximately 215 hp) and 295 Nm of torque. Among the technological innovations offered by the vehicle, the new generation i-Pedal 3.0 system stands out. This system allows drivers to adjust regenerative braking levels and experience a more comfortable driving with single-pedal operation.
The EV5 also distinguishes itself with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) for external power supply and the upcoming Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) feature. This allows the vehicle to be used as a mobile power source in campsites, construction sites, or during emergencies.
Design and Interior Features

In terms of exterior design, the “Opposites United” philosophy, also seen in other models of the series, is prominent. Inspired by the EV9, the EV5 exhibits a powerful SUV stance with its wide nose structure, three-dimensional LED daytime running lights, muscular bumpers, and prominent skid plate. In the rear, the vertically extending taillights and simple tailgate are noteworthy. The SUV’s length is 4.6 meters, and its wheelbase is 2.75 meters.
The interior combines digital and physical comfort elements. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch multimedia screen, and 5-inch climate control panel create a panoramic digital display area. The system, which supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates, allows digital features to be purchased later via the Kia Connect Store. Equipment such as fingerprint recognition, Digital Key 2.0, Kia AI Assistant, and Harman Kardon sound system elevate the user experience.
On the safety front, the EV5 is also impressive, equipped with seven airbags and a reinforced body structure, as well as advanced driving assistance systems. Prominent systems include Highway Driving Assist 2 (which detects hands on the steering wheel), Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Global sales of the EV5 are expected to begin in Korea and Europe in the second half of 2025. The price has not yet been announced, but the EV5, positioned between the EV3 and EV6 in the product range, is expected to have a price tag of around 40,000 euros. The Kia EV5 is also anticipated to arrive in Turkey within this year.
