Volkswagen officially gets ChatGPT support
Volkswagen announced the successful integration of ChatGPT into several of its vehicle models. This development, which was first revealed by the German automobile giant in January 2024, marks the culmination of extensive efforts to incorporate advanced AI technology into their cars.
In January, Volkswagen officials stated that they had been working on ChatGPT integration for some time. Now, they have confirmed the completion of this integration across a range of their vehicles, enhancing the driving experience with cutting-edge AI capabilities.
ChatGPT will support many models
In a statement made by the company in recent months, it was mentioned that GPT was developed alongside Volkswagen’s own voice response system to offer a unique experience. According to an announcement published on Volkswagen’s official website today, the new AI-powered assistant, called Cerence Chat Pro, is now available in all supported vehicles.
As of today, Cerence Chat Pro will be available in five different languages. The ChatGPT-powered voice assistant, initially available in English (US), English (UK), German, Spanish, and Czech, will be featured in Volkswagen group models such as Cupra, Seat, Skoda, Tiguan, Golf, and Passat.
Volkswagen Brand Board Member and Head of Development, Kai Grünitz, stated:
“Volkswagen has a long tradition of integrating new technologies. As a series manufacturer, we make these technologies accessible to a large number of people. By seamlessly integrating ChatGPT into our voice assistant, we offer drivers the opportunity to use this AI on a daily basis, thus highlighting how innovative our products are.”
With this integration, drivers will be able to get instant answers to questions useful while driving, such as “Where is the nearest electric vehicle charging station?” or “What will the weather be like tomorrow?” Additionally, when the driver is tired, the assistant can play various music and make in-car adjustments, such as lighting and temperature.
