Google has announced AI-powered educational tools that will delight anyone interested in learning a new language. Although still in the early stages, the three modules show promising results and may position Google as a strong competitor to platforms like Duolingo.
The first module is called “Tiny Lesson” and is designed to help you quickly learn useful phrases for specific situations. The second module, “Slang Hang”, focuses more on everyday language rather than formal speech. It even helps you understand local slang words and expressions. The third module, “Word Cam”, uses your smartphone’s camera to help you learn a language based on the objects around you.
Still in Development, but Full of Potential
According to Google, these AI language learning tools are still in their early phase and may have some limitations. For instance, Slang Hang occasionally uses slang terms incorrectly or even invents words. Google suggests that users might benefit from comparing these modules with other platforms for the best experience.
These modules currently support the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
