Artificial intelligence will significantly change the workforce by enabling automation, which will eliminate many of today’s unskilled labor jobs. However, this transition will not be easy. Research suggests that the introduction of artificial intelligence could lead to worker revolt.
Artificial intelligence and workers’ revolts
Artificial intelligence poses a threat to jobs that were once considered impossible to automate. A series of papers by Oxford researchers has highlighted the susceptibility of various professions to automation.
According to their findings, professions such as real estate agents, insurers, and sports referees are among those most likely to disappear. The decreasing cost of artificial intelligence makes it feasible to perform many jobs with computer systems.
If futurist Ray Kurzweil’s predictions are accurate, by 2045, computer intelligence will surpass human capabilities in every aspect, leading to the technological singularity.
The impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market will not only be a technological issue but will also become a political challenge in the future. Oxford’s research also suggests that artificial intelligence could exacerbate divisions as inequalities within capitalism intensify. There is even a concern that artificial intelligence could lead to a workers’ revolt.
