Tesla’s Optimus Robot Has Started Running Like a Human

Tesla has shared a new performance video of its humanoid robot, Optimus. The robot, capable of running like a human in the laboratory, sparked both admiration and concern on social media.
Tesla shared the latest performance update for its humanoid robot, Optimus, on December 3rd via X (formerly Twitter). The short video shows Optimus performing a run on the laboratory floor that resembles human movements. Following the post, comments ranged from admiration to concern and questioning by some users.

Optimus Continues to Evolve Optimus stands 180 cm tall and weighs 73 kg. The robot is equipped with joints offering over 40 degrees of freedom, while its hands stand out with 11 degrees of freedom. The robot can work almost all day with a 2.3 kWh battery and is highly efficient in terms of energy consumption. Optimus consumes only 100 W at rest and 500 W while walking.
The shared video highlights significant improvements in Optimus’s balance, coordination, and gait control. Previous updates focused on the robot acquiring basic skills such as controlled walking, object manipulation, and posture training.
Additionally, an 8-second split-screen video reveals the development between May 2023 and December 2025. The first part shows the initial steps of Tesla robots in the factory, while the second displays the latest progress. According to Tesla, while Optimus is still in the development phase, it will soon enter mass production. Elon Musk predicts that once production scales up, the price of the robot could range between $20,000 and $30,000. Musk also claims that in the future, robots will manufacture other robots, thereby potentially removing human intervention from the majority of the production line.
