The surge in patent applications related to the metaverse from companies like Tencent, NetEase, Baidu, and ByteDance indicates the growing popularity of the metaverse concept in China. China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has reported receiving at least 16,000 trademark applications containing the term “metaverse.”
