Stephen Curry Branding in Metaverse

Steph Curry, the MVP and four-time champion with the Golden State Warriors, recognized as the best shooter in NBA history, has submitted a trademark application for the registration of “Curryverse.”

Superstar Submits Curryverse to U.S. Patent And Trademark Office

Similar to LeBron James, Steph Curry was born in Akron, Ohio. Like LeBron, Steph has also ventured beyond his beginnings. However, the legend remains with the Golden State Warriors, where he currently plays, but he’s extending his talents into the metaverse with “Curryverse.”

The scope of Curryverse encompasses a variety of Web3-related services. These include video games, a mobile app designed for tracking workouts, nutrition plans, as well as products like shoes, apparel, training equipment, coaching resources, and mouthguards.

Per the trademark application, Steph Curry is also leveraging the Curryverse brand for charitable fundraising services and entertainment services. This includes aspects related to Curry’s personal, virtual, and metaversal appearances. Additionally, it covers the creation, promotion, sale, and exchange of NFTs, aligning with the evolving digital landscape.

Curry and Web3

The Curryverse marks yet another step into the Web3 world for Steph Curry. In December 2021, the NBA superstar launched an NFT collection featuring 2,974 sneakers, celebrating his record-breaking achievement of 2,974 successful 3-point shots. As of now, that record stands at 3,151, still held by Curry.

Named the Genesis Curry Flows, these sneaker NFTs were initially offered at a price of $333. An interesting aspect of this three-point record is that all proceeds from the sales were donated to charities aimed at increasing access to sports. Curry also has three other pending trademarks related to Web3 and the metaverse.

Curry plays for the Golden State Warriors, based in San Francisco. In a move to embrace Web3, GSW has partnered with FTX to launch their own NFT collection. The Golden State Warriors are the first sports team to release their own NFT collection, leveraging the appeal to NBA fans and Curry’s prowess in basketball
