Sora 2.0 Announced: AI-Powered Pet Videos Are Starting

OpenAI’s video platform, Sora, is receiving a major update with pet cameos, basic video editing, and an Android version. Social media could be reshaped by this innovation.
OpenAI’s short-video application, Sora, is rolling out a major update that could completely change social media feeds.
Bill Peebles, the head of the Sora team, announced that the new version will bring the ability to create pet cameo videos, basic video editing tools, higher performance, and finally, an official Android app.
What is Sora? For those who haven’t tried it yet, Sora is a platform that generates realistic short videos from text prompts. In essence, it combines the short video experience of TikTok with the image generation capabilities similar to DALL·E. The result is AI videos that are either entertaining, bizarre, or sometimes go viral.

Pet Videos Are Coming The most striking innovation shared by Peebles is that users will now be able to include their dog, guinea pig, stuffed toy, or practically any object they wish as a cameo in videos. This feature could completely transform social media feeds into a frenzy of AI-powered cuteness. As a dog owner, Peebles also joked about how this would affect his own Instagram enjoyment: “I probably won’t be able to lift my head up from sending my wife French Bulldog videos.” Sora will also offer the option to reuse previously created characters. This means users can continue the stories of the AI characters they have created.
Basic Video Editing Tools Are Being Added With the new version, Sora is gaining basic video editing functionalities. Users will now be able to combine and edit different clips directly within the application. This heralds an era where distinguishing between real and AI-generated videos will become even more challenging.
The Android Version is Finally Here Until now, Sora was only available to web and iOS users. However, Peebles delivered the long-awaited news: “Finally, Sora is coming to Android!” This means users with the best Android phones will also be able to generate videos of their golden retriever playing baseball on the moon.
A More Social Experience Is Underway Peebles also emphasized that OpenAI aims to make Sora more social: “We are exploring new ways to use Sora with your friends. We are working on channels specific to groups, such as your university, workplace, or sports club, instead of just a general feed.” This innovation aims to offer an experience similar to TikTok’s “For You” page within Sora’s own community.
The Line Between Real and Artificial is Blurring Alongside the fun aspect of all these developments, there is also a thought-provoking side. As social media platforms are already flooded with artificial content, Sora’s new tools could exacerbate this situation. Now, every pet owner will be able to produce high-resolution fantasy videos starring their dog. This may make social media feeds cuter, but also less “real.” Nevertheless, these developments are not entirely negative. The same technologies represent a huge opportunity for independent content creators, teachers, and storytellers. It may now be possible to shoot short films even with limited budgets. However, one thing is certain: Sora’s development speed is impressive, and social media is once again about to change fundamentally.
