Hamster Kombat, one of the pioneers among Telegram bots that offer players the opportunity to earn money through gaming, has recently found itself at the center of growing controversy.
Telegram bots have surged in popularity over the past few months, with many offering users crypto tokens in exchange for playing games for a certain amount of time. Among these, Hamster Kombat has emerged as a leader and recently announced the distribution figures for its first season. However, the platform has faced significant backlash, primarily due to the token distribution falling below user expectations.
The airdrop, which is set to begin on September 26, is being hailed as one of the largest token distributions in history, with the Hamster Kombat team projecting it will reach 131 million users. The main issue, according to users, is that the distribution appears to be unfair, sparking widespread dissatisfaction.
Tokens will be distributed gradually
Hamster Kombat, which launched in March, has already reached 300 million users. While the company claims that the upcoming token distribution will greatly benefit the gaming community, it was also announced that a total of 60 billion HMSTR tokens—equivalent to 60% of the market supply—will be distributed to players. However, this distribution will not occur all at once.
In the first phase of the airdrop, only 11.25% of the Season 1 rewards will be distributed, and the vesting period for these tokens will last a full 10 months. The long duration of the distribution, combined with the relatively small amount per user, has sparked significant backlash. As for Season 2, the goal is to distribute up to 75% of the total token supply to a broader audience, but the future of the token remains crucial in determining the success of these plans.
On social media, 2% of users (approximately 2.3 million) expressed their dissatisfaction after being excluded from receiving rewards as part of the game’s anti-cheat measures. Many users found this situation unfair, arguing that the referral system played a more significant role in the distribution than other tasks. One user even called it “the worst airdrop in crypto history,” while others criticized the project for offering too low rewards despite their long-term participation.
Additionally, Hamster Kombat’s announcement to increase the supply of HMSTR tokens from 10 billion to 100 billion has sparked concerns within the community about potential token devaluation. As the mid-season progresses, many players have voiced their intentions not to continue playing the game in the upcoming season.
