Oura Smart Rings to Provide High Blood Pressure Alerts

Oura plans to bring blood pressure measurement functionality to its smart rings. The hypertension alert feature, which is coming to the Oura Ring 3 and Ring 4 models, will undergo a testing phase before being rolled out to everyone.

Oura added a stress tracking feature to its platform in 2023. The smart ring manufacturer recently announced that this feature is being enhanced with a new tool that will provide users with insights into how their bodies cope with stress over time. Oura has also taken the first steps to develop features that will alert users when their blood pressure rises.

While Apple and Samsung claim that their smartwatches can measure blood pressure when necessary, the Huawei Watch D and Watch D2 are the only consumer-grade wearables that offer medically certified level blood pressure measurement. The Circular Ring 2 can also measure blood pressure, but this feature is paid.

Oura stated that it will bring similar support to some of its newest smart rings. The company specifically hopes to offer blood pressure measurement on the Oura Ring 3 and Oura Ring 4 models. However, Oura needs to obtain regulatory approval before it can offer this feature to consumers. Users who opt for the Oura Labs service will get early access to the feature.

Oura’s smart rings will interpret blood pressure levels via PPG sensors. The Oura Ring 3 and Oura Ring 4 will not require calibration with a medical-grade blood pressure monitor before use. In other words, the Oura Ring 3 and Oura Ring 4 will not be able to display diastolic and systolic measurements.
