Clone Robotics: The Most Unsettling Firm in the World of Robotics

Clone Robotics, one of the most unsettling companies in the field of robotics, is back in the spotlight. The U.S.-based firm recently released a video, which you can watch below, of their humanoid robot prototype called “Protoclone.” In this video, a suspended prototype eerily showcases the movement of its hands and feet using its artificial muscle system, in the most disturbing way possible.

The company, which distinguishes itself by presenting its developed systems under a transparent synthetic skin—making every creation look quite unsettling—gained attention last year with a robotic arm system named “Clone” (video below). The company, particularly noted for its artificial muscle management that mimics tendons, made the following statement about its newly showcased Protoclone prototype: “Protoclone is a synthetic human with over 200 degrees of freedom, more than 1,000 Myofibers (the name given to its artificial muscle system), and over 200 sensors.”

The company, which aims to eventually sell this robot commercially, brings to mind HBO’s highly acclaimed series “Westworld” with every new release.

DEEP Robotics’ Lynx Robot Dog

In this field, previously released videos by Chinese firm DEEP Robotics showcasing their all-terrain robot dog model also generated significant buzz.

DEEP Robotics’ robot dog, named Lynx, unlike many similar robots, travels on wheels. This robot moves with incredible balance and can easily navigate rough terrain despite its wheeled structure, performing flips very quickly and effortlessly. Combining both its wheels and leg movements when climbing terrain, the robot can easily overcome large obstacles and move very comfortably on two wheels. Lynx’s performance in its latest video is also impressive; it can now stand on a single wheel and travel on two wheels. In the new video, which you can watch below, the robot is taken onto snowy ground with studded tires and can now flip to land on two feet.
