Netflix has recently expanded its reach into the Decentraland Metaverse, offering a unique experience for its users.
Fans of the streaming service can now immerse themselves in scenes from Netflix’s latest action film, ‘The Gray Man,’ featuring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, within the Metaverse environment.
This innovative move is part of the company’s promotional strategy for ‘The Gray Man.’ Furthermore, Netflix is keen on exploring new, interactive methods for brands to engage with their audience in a virtual setting.
This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance fan interactions and provide novel experiences.
Netflix Experience ‘The Gray Man’ Metaverse
Netflix has embraced an innovative approach to promote its spy thriller, ‘The Gray Man,’ by launching an immersive experience in the Decentraland Metaverse. This activation, spread across 45 parcels in Decentraland, is crafted as a Metaverse mission. It features meticulously recreated stills from the movie, offering users a unique blend of virtual and cinematic worlds.
In this virtual setting, a maze is designed to challenge users’ familiarity with the film’s plot. The more knowledge participants have of the movie, the easier they can navigate through the labyrinth. Inside the maze, they are greeted with the movie’s original soundtrack and an instructional video narrated by the protagonist, Ryan Gosling.
This collaboration with Netflix Latin America leverages a strategy where the best way to engage users in the Metaverse is to replicate an actual scene from the movie.
This approach not only appeals to those who have already watched the film but also aims to increase viewership by engaging users in the maze and encouraging them to watch the movie. This months-long experiment represents a new model for big brands to enter the Metaverse by renting virtual land for specific, short-term projects instead of purchasing it. Alvarez notes that companies adopting this strategy today will gain a significant advantage in understanding Metaverse interactions.
In its first week, Decentraland reported that 2,000 users successfully navigated the maze. Upon reaching the fountain in the center and unlocking a secret room, users can link their wallets to record their completion time, with the fastest time during the demo being thirteen seconds.
Successful participants receive rewards for their avatars, such as free wearables, including skins signed by the movie’s three main characters: Sierra Six’s jacket, Lloyd’s mustache and polo shirt, and Miranda’s blazer and bob jacket.
Besides hosting Netflix’s venture, Decentraland has recently become a hub for major brands like Samsung, Nike, and Coca-Cola. The platform also hosted the Metaverse Fashion Week, featuring luxury fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana, further cementing its growing prominence in the market.
