Meta and Apple Compete for Metaverse Dominance

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently stated in an internal meeting that he sees a deep and philosophical rivalry between Apple and Meta in the development of the metaverse.

Zuckerberg claimed that both companies are gearing up to sell hardware for augmented and virtual reality.

According to meeting notes obtained by The Verge, Zuckerberg emphasized that they are in competition with Apple to shape the future direction of the internet.

He positioned Meta as a more open and affordable alternative to Apple, which is anticipated to unveil its first augmented reality headset soon. Zuckerberg aims to position Meta as a frontrunner in the competition by leveraging its pricing advantage.

Zuckerberg’s statements suggest that the two tech giants will be in fierce competition in the coming years as they seek to challenge Apple’s dominance in the realm of mobile devices.

Meta has been actively involved in the metaverse space, evident in its recent launch of the Metaverse Open Standards Group alongside companies like Microsoft and Epic Games.

This initiative aims to promote the creation of open protocols facilitating easy navigation of immersive, three-dimensional worlds with virtual products.

Additionally, Meta has initiated a publication series called “Are we there yet?” to make the metaverse more accessible and better understood by the general public.
