In response to the swiftly evolving digital landscape, the government has introduced its own metaverse platform, MetaNesia, as announced by Indonesian Minister of State-owned Enterprises Erick Thohir.
Developed by state-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom Indonesia and launched on Sunday, MetaNesia aims to empower small and medium-sized businesses in Indonesia to showcase their products on par with larger international counterparts in the virtual realm.
The platform is not only envisioned as a marketplace for businesses but will also serve as a venue for organizations to provide essential social services, including online health counseling, to a broader audience.
Minister Thohir emphasized the importance of not lagging behind other countries in the metaverse space, stating, “We need to balance the changes in this ecosystem, and one of the answers is MetaNesia.”
MetaNesia features a Metaverse Mall for shops, service centers, and entertainment, as well as a Metaverse Concert hall for events.
Additionally, the platform is designed to host a non-fungible token (NFT) market, virtual meetings, and sporting events.
