Google’s Veo AI Enhances YouTube Shorts for Creators

YouTube is set to introduce new AI-powered features for its users. Google’s text-to-video creation tool, called “Veo,” will be available on the YouTube Shorts platform later this year, allowing creators to generate AI-powered backgrounds.

AI support for YouTube Shorts

With this innovation, content creators will be able to add AI-generated backgrounds to their videos using a green screen format, allowing for more creative and expressive content. By 2025, the technology will evolve further, enabling the creation of entire video clips, with AI generating videos up to six seconds in length.

Google announced in May that Veo technology would be made available to the public for the first time. YouTube’s adoption of this tool could signal the beginning of a new era in content creation. Veo, developed by OpenAI, is expected to compete with other AI-powered content production tools, creating strong competition in the space. With these innovations, YouTube aims to attract new creators and compete with platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

Initially, the text-to-video functionality will be limited. Creators will only be able to generate backgrounds and add them to their videos through a green screen feature called Dream Screen.

Beyond text-based video production, YouTube is also introducing several other AI-powered tools for content creators. For instance, the new AI dubbing feature will allow voiceovers in different languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian, with more languages to follow. YouTube also aims to replicate tones and intonations for more natural-sounding voiceovers. Additionally, AI-generated titles and thumbnails in YouTube Studio will help streamline content creation for creators.

New feature that makes it easier to be discovered: Hype points

YouTube has introduced a new feature called “Hype Points” to help lesser-known creators gain more visibility. Creators with fewer than 500,000 subscribers can boost their exposure as users “hype” their videos. These featured videos will then appear on the Hype dashboard. Beta tests in Turkey, Taiwan, and Brazil revealed that the 18-24 age group was the most active in using the Hype feature.
