Amazon is tackling the shortage of trained professionals in the field of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) and aims to promote its artificial intelligence products by offering courses.
With the debut of generative artificial intelligence, exemplified by ChatGPT last year, the technology has captured the interest of both individual users and the business sector.
As a wide range of companies, both large and small, invest in this domain, the proper and effective use of generative artificial intelligence applications and tools has become increasingly important. To address this need, e-commerce and cloud computing behemoth Amazon has initiated “AI Ready,” offering free training courses.
“AI Ready” represents a significant extension of Amazon’s existing AI skills training programs based on AWS. Beyond the pre-existing offerings, Amazon has now incorporated eight free courses that focus on AI project management and development.
Amazon has disclosed that its programs have already provided training in AWS cloud computing skills to 21 million individuals. The company projects that by 2025, 25 million people will have participated in its AI courses.
A total of $12 million in scholarships in addition to free tuition from Amazon
Amazon’s latest initiative includes offering a new AI course on Udacity to over 50,000 high school and college students globally, supported by an AWS scholarship.
This effort, aimed at students from underserved and underrepresented communities, represents a $12 million investment by Amazon. Additionally, Amazon has announced a collaboration with Code.org to assist students in learning about generative AI.
Amazon’s rationale for this initiative is evident in their statement. They point out a high demand for workers skilled in AI, with 73% of employers viewing it as a key priority. Yet, a significant challenge persists, as three-quarters of these employers report difficulties in finding sufficient AI talent.
Furthermore, employees equipped with AI skills can expect salaries up to 47% higher. Remarkably, 93% of businesses plan to incorporate AI solutions into their operations within the next five years.
To meet this surging demand for AI expertise, Amazon has developed a targeted training program. This initiative aims to bridge the talent gap in the AI sector while also promoting Amazon’s AI products.
The training encompasses an eight-lesson, non-technical course provided by Amazon, designed to introduce learners to the basics of generative AI, project planning with AI, and the utilization of Amazon’s CodeWhisperer AI code generator.
These courses are deliberately crafted to elevate Amazon’s presence in the AI technology sphere, aligning it with leading entities such as Microsoft/OpenAI and Google.
Topics covered include AWS machine learning, language models, and the Bedrock AI app builder, thus broadening understanding and application of Amazon’s AI technologies.
Those interested in Amazon’s free courses can access the first generative AI training and introductory lessons to CodeWhisperer on the AWS Educate site. The rest of the free courses, including learning how to use Amazon’s Transcribe speech-to-text generator, are available on the AWS Skill Builder site.
