Game of Thrones Joins Metaverse

“Game of Thrones,” one of the most celebrated TV shows in history, has now been incorporated into Funko’s Digital Pop! lineup.

These Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), which replicate Funko’s distinctively stylized figures, form part of a virtual collection.

The NFT collection of the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones” went on sale on October 4th. While the collection is available digitally, it offers the possibility of being exchanged for a corresponding limited edition physical collection.

The “Game of Thrones” NFT drops feature collectible items including Jaime Lannister, Arya Stark, Jaqen H’ghar, The Hound, Jon Snow, and Daenerys with the dragon egg. Fans can access the full collection on the pop-culture NFT website Droppp.io. Standard packs, containing five Digital Pops, are priced at $9.99, and premium packs, with 15 Digital Pops, are available for $29.99.

However, there were only 625,000 NFTs available at this rate, with each collection limited to just 31,250 packs. Therefore, fans needed to act quickly to secure their desired items.

Before venturing into the Metaverse with “Game of Thrones,” Funko collaborated with Warner Bros. on DC Comics’ phygital (physical and digital) products. There were rumors that Funko would launch the 30,000 NFT “Brave and the Bold” collection at Walmart Collector Con, starting from October 7th, available on Walmart’s website.

The aim of this project is to cater to both physical and virtual comic book collectors by merging print and NFT versions of DC’s “The Brave and the Bold.”

These NFTs, published on the World Asset eXchange (WAX) blockchain, can be claimed online by fans who purchase them and link their cryptocurrency wallets to WAX. The WAX network supports 60 million NFTs, produced by renowned companies including Funko, Topps, Atari, and 30,000 Dapps.

CEO Andrew Perlmutter mentioned that this initiative was an experiment to explore the potential integration of NFTs with retail and online platforms. This project also presented an ideal opportunity to gauge interest in expanding the NFT business to retail stores and online investors. Josh Hackbarth, Head of Commercial Development for Warner Bros. NFT, expressed excitement about the series and noted the enthusiasm among fans.

NFTs extend beyond shows and movie material. Samsung said it will also add NFTs to smart TVs relatively early this year. Thanks to the new marketplace LG Art Lab, people can buy and sell NFTs from their televisions. The first batch of NFTs was released in September and more will be added each month.

Currently, access to this functionality is limited to WebOS 5.0 users in the United States. But they aim to open it up to everyone around the world. However, Samsung’s primary goal is to provide a high definition viewing experience when NFTs are purchased.

The same technique is adopted by streaming channels. Roku has added a channel called StreamNFTs that lets you showcase your collection and discover others from the top art markets.

The use of NFT in television and movies is almost unlimited. Even NFT startups like World of Women and Bored Ape use their brands and intellectual property to select movies and unscripted TV shows. The use of Web3 in this sector is just beginning. But eventually it will become so common that it will be in every popular TV show or movie we come across.
