Europe’s Best-Selling Electric Cars Revealed: Tesla Model Y Dominates First Half of 2025

New data for the first six months of 2025 reveals a significant surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales across Europe, with these models now accounting for a remarkable 29% of total vehicle sales – the highest level ever recorded. This growing interest is particularly evident in SUV and urban compact models.

Despite rumors of declining popularity, the Tesla Model Y has undeniably topped the charts, maintaining its lead as the best-selling electric car by a significant margin. Volkswagen’s ID.4 also demonstrated strong performance.

According to data published by CleanTechnica, not only Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) but also Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) hold a substantial share of the market. However, the figures clearly indicate that BEVs are now overwhelmingly preferred.
