The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has taken a significant step to captivate space enthusiasts. In collaboration with Microsoft, NASA has unveiled a chatbot called “Earth Copilot”. As the name implies, this chatbot is based on Microsoft’s Copilot and is designed to make accessing and understanding information in NASA’s database easier. With Earth Copilot, users can obtain detailed and quick answers to questions about space exploration.
Limited access for now
According to NASA, Earth Copilot will initially be accessible only to scientists and researchers working within the organization. However, the chatbot will eventually become part of NASA’s Visualization, Exploration, and Data Analysis (VEDA) program, allowing it to be open for public use in the future.
Why is Earth Copilot needed?
Tyler Bryson, a senior administrator at NASA, explained the necessity of Earth Copilot. Highlighting NASA’s extensive database, Bryson mentioned that finding, understanding, and utilizing the data is a complex task. According to him, artificial intelligence will greatly simplify this process, making it more efficient for both experts and, eventually, the public.
