Apple CEO Tim Cook on Productive Artificial Intelligence

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, recently highlighted the company’s significant investments in artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing its pivotal role in crafting innovative AI-based products. Cook pointed out the integration of AI in Apple’s latest products, such as iOS 17, featuring technologies like Personal Voice and Live Voicemail, which are driven by AI.

He also mentioned life-saving features such as Fall Detection, Collision Detection, and the ECG functionality in Apple watches, underscoring that these advancements are made possible through AI.

Cook stressed that without artificial intelligence, achieving these technological breakthroughs would be unattainable. He highlighted the company’s efforts not just in investing in AI but also in incorporating generative AI into the development of new products.

Delving deeper into Apple’s engagement with AI and machine learning, Cook explained that these technologies are fundamental to every product the company designs.

He showcased how applications in iOS 17, including Personal Voice and Live Voicemail, rely on AI. Additionally, he noted that life-saving features in Apple watches, such as Fall Detection, Collision Detection, and the ECG capability, are built on these core technologies.

Cook further elaborated on AI-based applications by sharing insights into Personal Voice, designed for individuals who have lost their speaking ability due to various health conditions, including ALS.

He described the process where users record themselves reading text prompts for about fifteen minutes. This recording is then processed using machine learning technologies on the user’s iPhone, iPad, or Mac to create a Personal Voice that mirrors their own.
