Some argue that artificial intelligence technologies will lead to job losses, while others are concerned about the inability to safeguard personal data privacy with AI. Additionally, there’s a prevalent concern that the use of AI in military applications could pose existential threats to humanity.
This protest at OpenAI’s headquarters can be seen as a direct outcome of these ongoing discussions. Protesters against artificial intelligence gathered at the company’s premises, voicing their opposition with slogans. Moreover, the protesters presented specific demands to OpenAI.

The primary demand of the individuals protesting against OpenAI was the cessation of research on artificial intelligence. During the protest organized by groups named “Stop Artificial Intelligence” and “No to General Artificial Intelligence,” statements were also made concerning the ties between the Pentagon and OpenAI. The protesters unequivocally argued that there should be no collaboration between OpenAI and the Pentagon on military artificial intelligence.
OpenAI did not issue a statement regarding the protests. Naturally, the company is not expected to halt its operations simply due to such a demonstration.
However, it could show greater sensitivity towards the opinions of the opposing side. Perhaps the company could at least provide more transparent statements on the matter to reassure the public. Only time will tell if this will occur…
