Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Expansion ‘From the Ashes’ Release Date Announced
The new expansion pack, From the Ashes, brings RDA-backed Mangkwan raiders and features like New Game+ and a third-person camera to the game.
Ubisoft has released the official launch trailer for From the Ashes, the first expansion pack for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Set to become accessible on December 19 across Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Ubisoft Store, Epic Games Store, Steam), this content confronts players with a more hostile environment in the Western Frontier.
Developed by Massive Entertainment, the expansion pits players against a new enemy group called the Ash Clan—also known as Mangkwan raiders—who oppose Eywa. These new enemies take center stage in the narrative, shaping the core conflicts in the Western Frontier. The Ash Clan’s visual identity, characterized by sharp red and black colors, signals a darker tone for the expansion.
The expansion’s story focuses on the personal journey of So’lek, who has an old score to settle with the Ash Clan. So’lek’s unfinished battle with the Mangkwan warrior Wukula forms the foundation of From the Ashes. Additionally, new and sadistic Mangkwan characters are introduced, such as Zari, a dangerous sniper trained by the RDA, and Rakx, who uses ikrans as instruments of violence.
Massive Entertainment Creative Director Omar Bouali stated that with this expansion, players will experience Na’vi vs. Na’vi combat in dramatic boss battles for the first time. Bouali noted that these conflicts offer greater variety and intensity in combat, addressing one of the community’s biggest requests.
New Technological Threats from the RDA
The trailer also showcased the RDA’s new military upgrades. These include hellhounds (robotic dogs previously introduced in the Avatar: The High Ground™ comic), Skel suits, and AMP suit variants equipped with snipers and shotguns. These additions are expected to raise the danger level in Pandora’s skies and jungles. The expansion also features a new RDA officer, Major Tyler Bukowski, who possesses deep knowledge of Na’vi culture and employs ruthless tactics. Bukowski is said to be leading the RDA-Ash Clan offensive, targeting So’lek and his Sarentu allies.
From the Ashes includes emotional story elements that deepen the backstories of returning allies like the Wind Traders and reinforce So’lek’s journey of survival and revenge. The expansion is available for purchase separately or via special editions containing the base game and bonus content.
Additionally, a free Title Update released on December 5 for the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora base game added highly requested community features: New Game+ and a third-person camera angle.
