KFC joins the Metaverse world
The food industry is increasingly expressing interest in the metaverse, and the latest player to step into this virtual realm is the renowned fast-food chain McDonald’s.
In an announcement that captured widespread public attention, McDonald’s revealed its plans to establish a virtual restaurant within the metaverse, marking a significant move in the evolving intersection of the food industry and the metaverse.
Notably, Yum! Brands, the parent company of well-known fast-food chains such as Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), has also joined the metaverse wave.
The company has filed multiple trademark applications related to metaverse products and services, including virtual food and drinks, NFTs, NFT-supported multimedia, online stores featuring virtual goods, and virtual restaurants offering both real and virtual products.
Michael Kondoudis, the spokesperson for Yum! Brands, mentioned that these trademark applications were submitted on March 25, 2022, and have been filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Kondoudis further emphasized that Yum!
Brands recognizes the potential within the metaverse and aims to position its brands as leaders in the virtual economy of the metaverse.
This strategic move reflects the company’s anticipation of the transformative impact the metaverse can have on various industries, including the food sector.
