XPENG UNVEILS NEXT-GENERATION HUMANOID ROBOT: Spectators Mistook it for a Real Person

XPeng, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, caused a major stir at its 2025 AI Day by introducing its next-generation Iron humanoid robot. The robot’s incredibly lifelike walk sparked intense debate on social media, with many questioning whether there was a “human inside.”

The unveiling of the new Iron robot marks one of XPeng’s most ambitious ventures into the technology sector. The female-form Iron took the stage with fluid and natural movements, resembling a catwalk model’s stride. XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng revealed the secret to the robot’s soft and balanced steps: “passive degrees of freedom added to its toes.”

While retaining the same dimensions as the 2024 prototype (178 cm, 70 kg), the new Iron boasts significant structural advancements. It now features a more human-like spine, a biomechanical muscle system, flexible artificial skin, a hand with 22 degrees of freedom, and a 3D curved screen for its head.

At the core of the robot lies XPeng’s second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model. This system is powered by the company’s proprietary three Turing AI chips, delivering up to 2250 TOPS of processing power. The use of solid-state batteries ensures both a lighter structure and high safety standards.

Iron is designed to handle complex tasks such as talking, walking, and interacting. He Xiaopeng emphasized that the robot will be able to “quickly adapt to different industries, just like a human.” Initially, Iron will be deployed in the service sector before expanding to industrial applications.

To facilitate this, XPeng plans to release a Software Development Kit (SDK) for Iron, aiming to collaborate with global developers. The first ecosystem partner will be the Chinese steel giant Baosteel, where Iron will soon begin testing for applications like industrial inspection. XPeng targets mass production of its advanced robots by the end of 2026.
