78% of People Ready to Work on Metaverse! Survey Reveals

Ciena Corporation conducted a survey involving over 15,000 individuals from various countries around the world.

The survey findings reveal that 78 percent of respondents express a desire to work in the Metaverse. This indicates a significant interest and willingness among people to engage with the Metaverse as a potential work environment.

The pandemic is generally not regarded as having a positive impact on the world. However, it did contribute to one significant change. During the pandemic, many individuals became more prepared for a digital future.

While the Metaverse may not exactly resemble the 3D world that has been promised for the past four decades, humanity has slowly started moving in that direction. Furthermore, according to recent research, a significant majority of people express their readiness to participate in this emerging digital realm.

A recent study, commissioned by Ciena Corporation and involving over 15,000 workers from countries such as Japan, India, and the United States, sought to gauge their comfort level with working in a digital world. The research uncovered that a majority of participants recognized the value of virtual meetings. More notably, a surprisingly high number of employees expressed a desire to engage in immersive experiences like the Metaverse.

The study indicates that people are growing weary of existing tools like Zoom and Skype and are eager to explore new and more exciting alternatives. This shift in business perspective represents a significant transformation. Just a few years ago, the idea of working in a digital world was often viewed as unprofessional. However, with the onset of the pandemic, opinions on this matter appear to have evolved.


Is the World Really Ready for Digital Transformation?

In the realm of the Metaverse, the concept extends beyond just fun and games. Research has shown that 38 percent of respondents believe that unreliable network performance is a significant barrier preventing organizations from transitioning to the digital world.

Complaints about issues such as sound interruptions and video delays during Zoom meetings are common and contribute to a less-than-optimal user experience. Approximately 71 percent of individuals believe that the Metaverse will become a regular part of their business practices within the next decade, and 40 percent anticipate that jobs will migrate from the physical world to the digital world.

However, the readiness for the Metaverse varies by country. Globally, 87 percent of professionals have no trouble conducting HR meetings in the virtual world, with an astonishing 97 percent of workers in India reporting their readiness for such transitions. In contrast, this rate is 57 percent in Japan, which is surprising given Japan’s reputation as a technologically advanced country. The study underscores the need for improvement before fully embracing the Metaverse.

The most significant obstacle hindering the full adoption of the digital future is poor networking. After all, there is little value in working in a virtual world if the connection is consistently lagging. Service providers have recognized this demand and have been working on solutions to address these network performance issues.
