XREAL Unveils Aura, Its Most Powerful Mixed Reality Glasses Yet

XREAL has officially introduced Aura, its new mixed reality glasses powered by the Snapdragon Reality Elite processor and Google’s Android XR platform. The device is expected to launch this fall with a starting price below $1,500 in select markets.

The announcement was made during Augmented World Expo, where XREAL confirmed that Aura will first become available in the United States through online retailers and Best Buy stores. The company also plans to bring the device to other international markets, including the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and South Korea. However, an exact release date has not yet been shared.

XREAL Aura is designed around an optical see-through display system with a 70-degree field of view. It uses dual Sony Micro-OLED panels, each offering a 1920 x 1200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Since the lenses are transparent, users can still see their surroundings clearly, while people nearby can also see the user’s eyes. For moments when users want to focus more on digital content, the glasses include an electrochromic dimming feature.

One of Aura’s key advantages is multitasking. The device can run up to five application windows at the same time, making it suitable for productivity, entertainment, and immersive workspaces. Gemini is also built into Android XR, giving users access to voice-based AI assistance directly through the glasses.

The product uses a split design. The main computing module houses the Snapdragon Reality Elite processor and runs Android XR apps. XREAL will offer Aura in two configurations: 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage, and 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage.

The module also includes a 4,455mAh battery rated at 34.84Wh. Inside the glasses, XREAL has added its X1S spatial co-processor, which handles low-latency processing, sensor input, and display-related tasks.

Aura supports 6DoF tracking, allowing the device to understand the user’s position and movement in space. It also includes cameras with LED indicators that turn on when the cameras are active, helping people nearby know when the device is recording or scanning the environment.

For interaction, XREAL Aura supports both voice commands through Gemini and hand tracking as the default input method. The device includes two USB-C ports: one for connecting the glasses and another for external power or DisplayPort video input. Wireless connectivity is handled through Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E.

With its transparent display, Android XR support, powerful processor, and AI-powered interaction features, XREAL Aura appears to be one of the most ambitious mixed reality devices announced so far. If the company can deliver strong app support and a comfortable user experience, Aura could become a serious competitor in the next generation of XR glasses.
