XPeng’s First Mass-Produced Flying Car Set for 2026 Launch

Following CES 2025, XPeng unveiled its flying car roadmap at its AI Day event. The first mass-produced flying car, slated for delivery in 2026, and subsequent models are poised to reshape the future of transportation.

The Land Aircraft Carrier is preparing to become the world’s first mass-produced flying car. The model has already gathered 7,000 orders globally, surpassing its competitor Jetson One. The vehicle, scheduled for 2026 delivery, offers a 1,000-kilometer range and can perform five to six flights on a single charge. XPeng notes that it has accumulated over 5,000 kilometers of verified flight data during the development process. Purchasers will benefit from a first-of-its-kind flight license program that includes one-on-one coaching.

Despite these advancements, many question marks still surround the model. Initially, the flying car is planned to be sold only in China, where it will be usable at approximately 200 existing flight camps. However, critical details such as the process for obtaining a flight license and the applicable regulations remain unclear. XPeng did not showcase the vehicle’s interior during the event; only the flight module and exterior design were displayed.

XPeng’s Flying Vehicle Roadmap

For the 2028–2030 period, XPeng aims to launch a new flying vehicle named A868. This hybrid vehicle, a mix of a drone and a helicopter, will feature a six-seater cabin structure and a top speed of 360 km/h. Most importantly, it promises flight capability that could completely eliminate the problem of traffic congestion.

Last month, the company began test flights on the Guangzhou–Guilin route. XPeng is positioning the A868 as a unique solution, especially for the business sector. While personal helicopters may not be accessible to most people as of 2025, the company aims to make the flying vehicle experience “everyday.” Nevertheless, the fact that XPeng conducted its presentation flights with professional pilots raises questions about how user-friendly the vehicle will ultimately be.

Post-2035, subject to legal regulations, XPeng plans to introduce a true sports car-looking flying vehicle. However, it remains uncertain whether this is a genuine vision or an unnecessary pipe dream.
