World’s Largest Vertical Rooftop Solar Power Plant Installed in Norway

In Tromsø, Norway, the world’s largest rooftop vertical solar panel installation has been completed. The 320 kW solar power plant, built by Over Easy Solar on the roof of a logistics terminal, consists of 6,400 vertical solar panels.

Vertical Panels Work More Efficiently in Northern Latitudes

According to Over Easy Solar, vertical solar panels are beneficial in northern latitudes like Tromsø, which is located within the Arctic Circle. They are more effective at capturing sunlight that comes in at a low angle. Vertical panels can generate more energy, especially in the morning and afternoon, and their design prevents snow from accumulating, leading to higher performance throughout the year.

The company’s new plant has broken its previous record for the largest vertical rooftop solar plant, which was installed last year at the Norwegian National Football Stadium. The new system was found to be more profitable in February compared to a similar horizontal solar installation in June. A study conducted by Over Easy Solar in January also revealed that vertical rooftop solar panels outperform traditional rooftop solar systems during profitable months, with an energy yield up to 30% higher.
