Walmart Prepares to Enter the Metaverse Universe

Global companies continue to make significant strides into the metaverse, with retail giant Walmart being the latest to join this trend.

Following in the footsteps of companies like Samsung, Walmart is preparing to enter the Metaverse with its own cryptocurrency and NFT initiatives.

In a move to establish its presence in the Metaverse, Walmart filed several trademark applications in December. The company submitted a total of seven separate applications, signaling its serious intent in this arena.

Walmart issued a statement explaining their approach: “We are continually exploring new ideas. Some of these evolve into products or services we provide to our customers, while others serve as valuable learning experiences.”

Following Facebook’s announcement of its rebranding to Meta and its shift towards broader goals beyond social media, Walmart and other companies have been evaluating how to adapt to the virtual world. This sentiment was echoed by Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney for the company.

Walmart’s foray into the Metaverse became more evident in August of the previous year when the company announced its search for executives specialized in cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies.

This move represents another major retail player embracing the potential of digital and virtual technologies.
