Tesla Confirms Bi-directional Charging Support for the New Model Y Performance

Tesla has confirmed that the new Model Y Performance supports both Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) features. This means the popular SUV can now transform into a portable power source.

Tesla has confirmed the activation of the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature in the new Model Y Performance version. This capability, previously exclusive to the Cybertruck within the Tesla family, is now being offered to Model Y Performance users. This move signals that the V2L feature may eventually spread to other Tesla models.

While Tesla vehicles have had the hardware for bi-directional charging for some time, the company officially offered the feature only on the Cybertruck. This changes with the new Model Y Performance. The feature can be used with Tesla’s own adapter or with third-party adapters.

According to information sent to Tesla customers:

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L):

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H):

What is V2L?

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology enables electric vehicles to be used as a mobile generator by drawing power from their high-capacity battery. This feature has been available for a long time in many models, such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6. Until now, Tesla offered this technology exclusively on the Cybertruck.

Although the Model Y Performance now offers V2L support, Tesla emphasizes that the most advanced bi-directional charging technology is still found in the Cybertruck. The Cybertruck can support more powerful loads and provide backup power to a home during outages.
