Tech Mahindra Brings Quantum Computing to the Metaverse!

Tech Mahindra and Mahindra University recently inked a new agreement to establish a laboratory dedicated to quantum computing and Metaverse research and development.

This new unit, set to be the 11th laboratory for Tech Mahindra globally, will be located at Mahindra University. Tech Mahindra currently operates 10 laboratories around the world.


Tech Mahindra Expands Metaverse Research!

Tech Mahindra CEO, Gurnani, highlighted the importance of focusing on the development of quantum computing in light of the growing data explosion driven by cloud computing, data centers, and 5G advancements. He emphasized that the foundations of quantum computing are rooted in quantum physics, suggesting that there’s an inflection point in this field where existing hardware and developers can make a significant impact.

Gurnani expressed his personal belief in the impending “future of pressure” on systems due to the continuous data growth. Mahindra University’s Vice-Chancellor, Yajulu Medury, praised the initiative for being an academy-industry collaboration. He highlighted the university’s faculties in quantum physics and artificial intelligence, emphasizing their alignment with industry-focused domains, especially in areas such as quantum computing and 5G, where collaboration with Tech Mahindra is ongoing.

As part of the collaboration, Mahindra University students will engage in intellectual property projects at Makers Lab and participate in on-campus R&D initiatives, gaining access to projects and internship opportunities. Nikhil Malhotra, Global Head of Tech Mahindra from Makers Lab, emphasized the nascent stage of quantum computing and the complexity of ongoing studies. Makers Lab will specifically focus on the impact of quantum computing on image optimization for satellites, and deepen collaboration with Mahindra University on explainable AI.

The partnership aims to explore the realms of AI and the Metaverse comprehensively, with the goal of making advancements based on the outcomes achieved.
