Boston Dynamics has released new footage of its Atlas humanoid robot, demonstrating its ability to perform complex tasks and adapt on the fly. The video shows the robot executing challenging activities and adjusting to changes in real-time.
The Massachusetts-based company, in collaboration with the Toyota Research Institute (TRI), has integrated an AI system called a Large Behavior Model (LBM) into Atlas. This system, trained on extensive datasets of human behavior, enables Atlas to respond more flexibly to real-world situations and exhibit more human-like movements. Even when a box was moved, Atlas continued its task without hesitation. The video shows Atlas walking, bending, and lifting objects to smoothly complete tasks like packing and organizing. When a box is moved or its lid is closed, the robot doesn’t give up; it simply continues the task from where it left off.
Boston Dynamics views this work as a crucial step on the path toward creating general-purpose robots. The company states that humanoid robots could be used for various tasks in both daily life and industry in the coming years.
