Seoul Becomes the First Virtual Universe City
Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is poised to make history by becoming the first city to officially enter the ‘Metaverse’, an arena increasingly viewed as the future of social media and closely linked with virtual reality.
The city plans to launch a platform for municipal services, aiming to have it operational by the end of 2022.
This move positions Seoul as a pioneer in adopting the Metaverse, a concept widely regarded as the next frontier in social media.
Under the initiative announced by the Seoul city government, residents will be able to use virtual reality goggles to engage in a variety of activities, ranging from virtual museum tours to interactions with city officials.
Reportedly, the Seoul government is allocating about $3.3 million to enhance communication between its citizens and Mayor Oh Se-hoon.
This project is a key component of the city’s 10-year strategic plan, aiming to elevate Seoul’s status on the global stage.
The city’s administration is ambitious about having the Metaverse platform fully functional by the end of 2022, with a broader vision of achieving complete operational capability by 2026.
Set to begin in December, the Metaverse project will feature a virtual office for the Mayor and provide public services across various sectors, marking a significant step in Seoul’s integration into the digital era.
