Production of the New Kia EV4 in Europe Begins in August

The new Kia EV4, planned to hit the roads from September as the first all-electric Kia produced in Europe, is expected to boost sales in the region and keep the brand competitive.

Korean automaker Kia is preparing to launch its new electric model, the EV4. Built on the group’s front-wheel-drive E-GMP platform, the EV4 will also be the first all-electric Kia to be manufactured in Europe. Production will begin this month at the Zilina plant in Slovakia, where internal combustion models like the Ceed and Sportage are also produced.

At just 4.43 meters long, the EV4 hatchback will carry the “Made in Europe” label. The fastback version, which is 30 centimeters longer, will be produced in South Korea. The Golf-sized EV4 is expected to account for the majority of European sales.

The most significant reason for this is that compact sedans still constitute a niche market in this segment. Another crucial factor is the price. The standard EV4 starts at €37,590, which is approximately €10,000 lower than the fastback version.

Kia’s decision to produce the compact model in Europe is not just about logistics. Incentive programs in countries like France and the UK evaluate the vehicle’s entire lifecycle, including battery origin and production location. Kia believes this uniquely designed compact model will appeal to European buyers. Kia Europe’s Head of Sales, Carlos Lahoz, predicts that the EV4’s annual global sales will reach 160,000 units, with half of those destined for European roads.

The brand hopes the compact EV4 will replicate the success of the EV3. Kia sold 37,000 units of its small electric SUV, the EV3, in the first half of 2025 alone. This increased its electric vehicle sales in Europe by 60 percent.

The Kia EV4 uses a 400V electrical architecture. The model features a 150 kW electric motor positioned on the front axle. This allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.7 and 7.4 seconds, depending on the body type, while the maximum speed is limited to 170 km/h.

The electric model offers 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh NMC battery options. With the larger battery, the EV4 hatchback promises a driving range of up to 590 km. While 11 kW AC charging comes as standard, DC fast charging allows for a 10-80% charge in 31 minutes.
