Pebble Introduces Its Smart Ring with a Microphone

Pebble has introduced its affordable smart ring. The Pebble Index 01 allows you to quickly take voice notes with its built-in microphone, but that is not its only function.

Pebble’s new smart ring is a finger-worn voice recorder. The Pebble Index 01 records voice notes to a paired smartphone and can also perform functions like setting reminders and controlling music playback. Designed specifically for certain use cases, the product is now up for pre-order at $75.

What Does the Pebble Index 01 Offer? Unlike typical smart rings, the Pebble Index 01 does not perform activity or sleep tracking. Pebble defines the product as a memory device designed to record voice notes to the Pebble app on the phone. Recordings are processed and stored locally by default. No subscription is required to use the ring, but an optional cloud service allows for online backup and higher quality speech-to-text conversion.

Holding down the button starts the voice recording. When you release the button, the recorded audio is sent to the Pebble app. The ring can be used to take notes this way; it is also possible to set reminders or create to-do lists using the microphone. Local LLMs running on the Pebble app determine what type of action your input should trigger. After each entry, a notification explaining the action performed is sent to the phone.

Pebble emphasizes that the Index 01 does not record all the time and is not intended for manual recording of long, continuous voice logs. Recording is active only as long as the ring’s button is held down, and the internal storage allows for approximately five minutes of recording. When recordings are transferred to the paired phone, space is automatically freed up in the storage.

The ring is made of stainless steel and comes in three color options: silver, gold, and black. Sizes range from 6 to 13. It is water-resistant and does not require charging. Pebble states that the battery provides 12 – 15 hours of recording time, which equates to 10-20 recordings of 3-6 seconds in length per day (presumably over its lifespan).

The price of the Pebble Index 01 is $75, and it can be pre-ordered from the Pebble site. The ring will begin shipping in March 2026, after which the price will rise to $99. As an important detail, the ring does not charge, nor can its battery be replaced.
