OpenAI has brought its AI-powered video application, Sora, to the Android platform. The application was initially made available in the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

According to the company’s announcement, the application, which allows users to generate, share, and edit AI-created videos, is now available for download via the Google Play Store in the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
OpenAI launched Sora for iOS in September, and the app exceeded 1 million downloads in just five days. Sora, which offers an AI video feed similar to TikTok, also features a “cameo” feature that allows users to generate AI content featuring themselves or their friends in videos. In recent weeks, the application faced criticism regarding its approach to the use of deepfakes and copyright protections, which resulted in OpenAI having to withdraw its “opt-out” policy for rights holders.
Additionally, the company has added new features that allow users to create reusable character avatars and merge videos by linking them together (video merging). In the future, OpenAI also plans to allow rights holders to charge an additional fee for cameos of popular characters or well-known individuals.
