OpenAI and Amazon’s $38 Billion AI Deal🤝

OpenAI has signed a massive $38 billion deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate the development of its artificial intelligence models. This seven-year partnership will grant OpenAI access to hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs and millions of CPUs located in Amazon’s data centers. This move comes shortly after Microsoft lost its exclusive cloud provider status with OpenAI.

🤝 Major Partnership Established

According to the company’s statement, OpenAI will immediately begin utilizing AWS infrastructure, with the full capacity targeted for deployment before the end of 2026. The agreement also allows for the expansion of this capacity in 2027 and beyond.

AWS already possesses significant experience in securely and efficiently operating large-scale AI clusters, some of which comprise over 500,000 chips. This enormous infrastructure will provide the processing power necessary for training and operating OpenAI models like ChatGPT.

According to Amazon’s statement, OpenAI will connect clusters of Nvidia GB200 and GB300 GPUs using the Amazon EC2 UltraServer infrastructure on AWS. This will achieve a low-latency, high-performance network structure, and the system can be utilized for both new-generation model training and running services like ChatGPT.

🔓 OpenAI’s Ties Are Loosened

Last week, OpenAI completed its restructuring process and signed a new licensing agreement with Microsoft. This agreement grants Microsoft the right to use OpenAI technologies until the company reaches Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) level. However, OpenAI also gained the freedom to develop products and release open-weighted models with third parties.

This restructuring deal includes OpenAI’s commitment to purchase $250 billion in Azure services from Microsoft. The company is also known to have a $300 billion contract with Oracle.
